about

My name is Noam Moyal. I am a leather craftswoman working in my atelier, where each piece is made slowly and entirely by hand.

My practice is grounded in traditional craftsmanship and in direct contact with the material itself. In a time increasingly shaped by technology, automation, and artificial intelligence, choosing to work by hand is a conscious decision. It allows me to slow down, to listen to the leather, and to remain connected to the essential gestures of making.

I believe that traditional leather handcraft is a quiet practice that is gradually disappearing. It does not seek spectacle or glamour. It asks for patience, attention, and sustained manual work. Like many traditional crafts, it survives because individuals choose to carry its knowledge forward. Through my work, I see myself as part of this continuity — preserving, practicing, and reinterpreting traditional techniques within a contemporary context.

My training began in Florence, where I studied traditional leather craftsmanship in an intimate setting guided by master artisans. This experience gave me a strong technical foundation and a deep respect for material knowledge and process. Since completing my studies in 2013, I have maintained an independent practice, allowing my work to evolve gradually through sustained hands-on exploration.

In recent years, my research has focused on a technique I developed independently, based on the manual crumpling of lamb leather. This process creates an organic surface texture that emerges through the interaction between hand and material. The resulting forms evoke natural phenomena — movement of water, veins, tree roots. Rather than imposing a fixed outcome, I allow the material to guide the final form.

Functionality and comfort are central to my work, alongside a strong commitment to sustainability and slow fashion. Most of my bags can be worn in different ways and are designed to sit comfortably on the body. Each piece is made to endure over time — an alternative to the speed and disposability of contemporary fashion.

Thank you for taking the time to explore my work.
